Chris and Mia go to a friend's wedding in TNN, so they return KHH for weekend. Grandparents and parents are so happy, also kids (Daniel is like a step away from Chris & Mia everywhere). Due to hot weather (KHH is around 36 degrees and TPE has new record - 38.6 degrees), we spend most of time in Grandparents' room with air-conditioning. TPE new activity - cable car has seriously break down and 200 ppl stuck in the air for 2 hours; I can't image how they survive there without water & air-conditioning.
Because of Grandparents, we speak Taiwanese more often and I found out that I still have a lot to learn on Taiwanese language. Most of decent Taiwanese are gone. Taiwanese was in writing and in folk songs, but most of them are gone. I heard there was a department trying to track Taiwanese and publish them, I look forward to it. When I was little, Grandpa talked me about Lin's home school with a private tutor who taught them Taiwanese in writing. There were books translated into Taiwanese, such as: classic literature(Confucius, Lao-tzu, The book of Changes...etc,), poetry, history. In that time, all Lin's boys had to study in Lin's shrine. The tutor would teach them a lot of things, the class could hold up to 20 students (Great-Grandpa's children and his grandchildren) Nowadays, temple is gone, Lin (in Grandpa's generation) has few left which makes Grandpa upsad. The other reason Uncle won't let Grandpa back to TNN these days was one of close relatvie pass away and his family is just in the corner of Uncle's house. Although Grandpa couldn't recognize most of us, but he could recognize most of relatives live near by. I remember Grandpa asked us the other day, how many ppl are live now in his generation in Lin's family. Silent! He said nothing, but looked his disappointment. Whenever he askes about this, Grandma changes subject, I guess, more or less, Grandpa gets the idea.
It's a really tiring work to prepare meal for 9 ppl, especially in this hot weather. The kitchen is like a kettle. While my mom and I prepare for dinner, the others take Grandparents walk around the neighbourhood. The good thing about KHH is the sea breeze at evening. The city really cools down a bit, but you gonna walk on the street to sense it. We like to sit outside after dinner, chatting with neighbour, like the old time, the only different is we are 20 yrs older and with our own family now. Aunt Tong (5F) starts this topic and we look back their arrivial, 25 yrs ago.
