My 2nd Aunt-in-law is going to have this New Year alone with her children. 2nd Uncle passed away this year, therefore, they couldn't celebrate the new year. Therefore, as relatvies, Mum deliveried some presents:
- Neen Gow(Muffin kind of baking rose cake) The main ingredient, glutinous rice flour, is a symbol of cohesiveness. The egg-dipped, pan-fried slices have a mellow sweetness and are slightly chewy from glutinous rice flour. Rice flour, which symbolizes cohesiveness; the round shape, which represents unity of family; and the slight rising of the cakes, which indicates rising fortune.
- Law Bock Gow (Turnip cake) On New Year's Day as a symbol of prosperity and rising fortunes. It's made with Chinese turnip, Law Bock, which is a type of daikon radish.
- Rou Zong (Rice pudding) A traditional delicacy made with steamed rice wrapped in bamboo leaves.
In old saying, the house had furnure can't use bamboo steamer on coming new year. So, Mum made some extra to share with Anut's family. That's all what we could do for them. I hope I can know more what else I can do to take away their sadness. I burn a CD with 2nd Uncle attened our family activities. Also, there were few video of 2nd Uncle sanging Kara-OK on his 70th birthday. Aunt loves those videos, to hear his voice again.
Aunt had Liver Resection in local hospital while my Dad was in for Open Cholecytectomy. Her health is much better now and her hands are also warmer, but she is so skinny. It's her first new year without Uncle (they were married more than half century). Aunt, add oil!
